The working class youth in Sweden and Finland face both similar and different situations. Both are subjected to the realities of the European Union, but while Finland was lured into the European Monetary Union, Sweden was kept out via the referendum in September this year.
It is of great importance that the working class youth in both countries oppose the policies of the European Union, and struggle against the union itself. Doing so is necessary to defend the interests of the workers in both our countries, as well as the interests of the proletariat all over Europe. Our struggle against EU imperialism is our biggest act of solidarity with the people and workers of the world. Every step we take to weaken EU is also a step that strengthens the forces of the working class.
The struggles that we conduct in our respective countries have influence on the other. The Swedish working class' victory in the EMU referendum helps the Finnish working class in its resistance towards the new constitution of EU. In Sweden, the EU establishment tried to use Finland as an example of how satisfied people are with the euro, but if there would have been a referendum in Finland, the working class would have won there too.
The Swedish no to EMU emerged from the fact that the people has learned what EU is about. With Finland's membership in EMU, the Finnish people have also learned the harsh realities of the European Union. When the working class of both our countries resist the European Union, it is not due to conservatism, or because we are afraid of change. On the contrary, we struggle for a major change in our socities: to overcome the neo-liberal politics of EU and stop our countries from bleeding.
Communist Youth League of Finland and Revolutionary Communist Youth in Sweden promise each other to stand in the frontline of the EU resistance, and thus strengthen each other in our respective struggles.
